Project Brief
The project was conceived as a contemporary single-storey home set within a generous rural plot in Loudon, USA. The aim was to create a calm and functional family residence with a clear relationship to its landscape, using a simple architectural language and a clean, efficient layout.
Our Approach
The design responds to the openness of the 2.63-acre site, adopting a low, grounded form that sits comfortably among the surrounding trees and level terrain. A soft, neutral palette, traditional horizontal siding and well-proportioned roof lines give the home a familiar American character while maintaining a refined, modern presence.
The internal arrangement is centred around an open living, dining and kitchen space, positioned to make the most of the site’s natural light and long outward views. Private rooms are arranged along quieter edges of the plan, offering a sense of retreat without breaking the clarity of the layout.
Design Features
- 1,926 sq ft of comfortable internal living space
- Three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms, organised for privacy and ease of movement
- A generous three-car garage discreetly integrated into the form
- A sheltered front porch establishing a clear and welcoming threshold
- Subtle detailing, including circular gable windows and soft exterior tones, to maintain a balanced visual rhythm
- Landscaping designed to complement existing features on the site, including apple trees, low shrubs and open lawn areas
Outcome
The final design achieves a quiet sense of harmony between architecture and landscape. The home sits confidently yet gently within its setting, with a layout that encourages everyday comfort and long-term adaptability. The balance of simplicity, proportion and natural light creates a residence that feels both grounded and welcoming.
